About Department of Atmospheric Science

The Department of Atmospheric Science is one of the scientific departments of the Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli, and the department was established as the "Department of Meteorology" at that time, as an independent specialization in the faculty in 1980 and the first batch of students was accepted in the academic year Fall 1980/1981 AD and the first batch of the department graduated with seven graduates in the academic year Spring 1983/1984 AD.

The Department of Atmospheric Science is a specialized department in atmospheric science and the only one in Libya in this field, and the study plan in the department is focused on providing the student with the latest developments and applications in all branches of atmospheric science through various subjects, which include specialized courses and practical applications, in addition to that, the student is given supportive courses such as physics, computer, statistics and mathematics in order to support specialized courses, and the department seeks from the reality of its experience and through graduate surveys and the extent of The need of the labor market for them, and within the educational plan of the university to develop its study program by updating the courses to add new information in this specialization and keep pace with the recent scientific information in various atmospheric sciences.

The Department of Atmospheric Science is currently located in the building of the Faculty of Science , a new building (under completion) is located in the area behind the Faculty of Science, specifically behind the university clinic and in front of the university's football stadium,  the new building contains a meteorological station to measure the surface atmospheric elements and the upper atmosphere and to provide services to the department student's and all faculties And the scientific departments of the university of teaching, training and providing meteorological data and information.
